Works in progress...

I've been busy the last couple of days making new goodies!! Some are commissions and some are for a upcoming Christmas Market. I've also made my first sculpture - a Santa. The photos show some shots of my craft table and everything ready to go in the oven.

Bronze and Copper clay

Had the chance to go to a workshop to try out the new bronze and copper clays. The clays are very similar to the silver clay I have worked with in the past but much cheaper! The only downside to it is that they both need to be kiln fired (guess I need to start saving!!)

I enjoyed working with both of the clays, as I said very similar to the silver but they don't dry out quite as quickly so you can play for a bit longer. On the other hand they will both oxide so they do need to be fired relatively quickly unlike silver which can be left for months before firing.

Anyway the picture shows the unfired pieces bronze on the left, copper on the right both are the results of a 30gram packet of clay.

Playing with clay...

Today I decided to spend some time playing with my Fimo. So I decided to do some mokume gane using pink, purple, white and silver. Mokume gane is a Japanese metalworking technique that resembles wood grain and is very easy to mimic in polymer clay.

You layer thin sheets of different coloured clays on top of each and then distort it by slicing through it. Then you cut very thin slices from it to reveal the pattern. Hard to describe but easy to do!!

The beads are made from the left over bits!!!
